On Monday, he and six other drivers in parking lot #2 had double-parked about 200 cars to save space by late morning, and Bernal expected to do at least another 100 by the end of the day. Nick Bernal, who started the parking company in 2007, said he wasn’t sure of the cost because he doesn’t know how big his crew would be each day. She also said the cost would be worth it because students sometimes drop out of school at the beginning of the semester out of frustration over parking. Luster said she wasn’t sure what the total cost would be, but believed it would be less than $10,000. Students in professor Waverly Ray’s geography class also helped research sustainable ways to get students in and out of class, Luster said.Īmong the solutions was a temporary valet service, which is being provided by Preferred Valet Parking. The school also has a new iMesa mobile app, which allows students to access campus maps and buy parking permits.

Mesa also launched Mesa Moves, a website with information on rideshare and vanpool options for faculty, staff and students through SANDAG’s “iCommute” program.

The school is working with Uber and soon will have four designated stops for the car service marked with signs on campus. The result was several new efforts to make it easier on student commuters. With no plans to build more parking lots, the school’s facilities committee brainstormed last year on immediate solutions to the parking crunch.
